Dear friends and family,

Kyra and I will be spending May 26-May 31 on a service trip working for the nonprofit organization Tipi Raisers, which operates on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Pine Ridge is an area of the United States in perpetual crisis related to the conditions of deep poverty and widespread intergenerational trauma. Unemployment on the Reservation is 80-85 percent and Pine Ridge is considered the poorest county in the United States.

We will be helping tribal members with home repairs, community projects, as well as delivering supplies and food. This is a community in desperate need.

As part of our project we would like to raise money for the Lakota People to spend in areas they need it most. We will also be buying supplies from their request list before we arrive at the reservation, so we welcome Visa or Target gift cards as well.

Please consider supporting this organization, which does such great work in helping alleviate conditions of poverty on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Anne-Marie and Kyra

About the Tipi Raisers:

Tipi Raisers strives to build alliances and strengthen communities across cultures. Their volunteers work alongside the Lakota People on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota to ease conditions of poverty, honor Indigenous wisdom, reconcile the past and learn about one another’s cultures.

Their Youth Leadership program, Gen7, convenes, mobilizes and empowers Native and non-Native young leaders; building relationships, bridging cultural gaps and providing the tools and resources necessary to bring awareness to pressing issues and make genuine change in the world around them.

Tipi Raiser's Mission

Through a variety of collaborative and multicultural projects, we strive to alleviate conditions of poverty, honor Indigenous wisdom, reconcile our shared history with the Peoples of the First Nations and empower youth with the leadership skills needed to affect social change in their communities.
